The British Tag!

I was tagged by the ever so lovely Daniela to do this tag. As I'm currently living abroad and already miss the UK like crazy, what better time to do the British Tag!

1. How many cups of tea do you have and how many sugars?

I actually don't like normal tea! The only teas I drink are herbal, and I'm particularly partial to a green tea with lemon. I used to get worried whenever someone would ask for a cup of tea, as I didn't have a clue how to make a 'good cup'. How embarrassing, I shouldn't be British at all. Working as a receptionist/part-time tea maker soon sorted that out though. I now feel confident in my tea-making abilities.

2. What is your favourite part of roast dinners?

Although I'm vegetarian I do still love a good roast, just without the meat. I'd say my favourite bits would have to be the roast potatoes and the gravy. If there's not enough gravy just forget it. Me and My sister used to have a roast dinner at our nan's house every Monday after school and she would always wind me up, saying she could see meat floating in my gravy. Sisters eh?!?

3. What's your favourite dunking biscuit?

Again, as a non-tea drinker I don't dunk. Obvs I love a biscuit though I'm still a human. Hobnobs all day erry day. The only way to improve a Hobnob- chocolate Hobnob.

4. Favourite British past time?

I like typically British Summer past times like going to fĂȘtes: coconut shys, guess the name of the rabbit and buying cakes for 20p each. I also love a good car boot/jumble sale.

5. What is your favourite sweet?

I just love pic and mix in general, I really shouldn't eat it due to the gelatine content but sometimes I can't help myself. My favourites are sour cherries, foam bananas and does anyone remember white chocolate skulls with red stuff in the middle? I never see them any more- the youth of today are missing out!

 6. Who is your favourite British person?

I'm having 3- Roald Dahl, Jacqueline Wilson and David Attenborough. Pretty self explanatory. I still sometimes read Jacqueline Wilson books on my Kindle in secret.

7. What is your favourite shop and restaurant?

I'm struggling with this question. I love Topshop for obvious reasons, but if we're talking a real British institution I'd have to say John Lewis. It's just such a pleasant shopping environment! Woah I'm old. My favourite restaurant has got to be a good old' chippie. Give me fat chips drowned in salt and vinegar with a pickled egg and a buttered roll and I'm well happy.

8. What British song pops into your head?

It's probably The Spice Girls- Wannabe but I think that's because I've watched a few of these tags on YouTube and that's what they've all said so it's programmed into my brain. I bloody loved the Spice Girls though- my 10 year old self thought they were the prettiest people I had ever seen in my life. Mel B was always my fave.

9. Marmite?

Marmite for the win!  I'm definitely late to the party however- I only discovered Marmite on buttery toast with about 4 years ago when one of my fellow Topshop VMs made it for me one break time. I'm weird with butter- I love it on its own but can't have it in sandwiches mixing around with the mayonnaise or pickle- VOM. In other marmite related news- bring back marmite rice cakes. They were such a dream with a bit of cheese.

All pics found on Google

I tag all readers who aren't British- what do you think about all things UK?

Summer Accessory Faves

Moving to a different country means being VERY selective with what you take. My suitcase was 10kg overweight when I weighed it at home which meant I had to remove a lot of stuff. That wasn't fun I can tell ya! I've ended up with what I like to call a curated, boutique (tiny) wardrobe. As one can imagine, accessories, particularly jewellery, can take up a lot of space and weight.

These are some of my favourites which made the cut:

1. The Necklace

I acquired this vintage locket when it was left on my bed at home in Bristol. My dad said he had been sorting some stuff out and he found it, a long ago gift from my nan. I have yet to pop a photo inside so it's just decorative at the moment but I think it's lovely and dainty.

2. The Bracelet

I just bloody love this Marc Jacobs bracelet. It was given to me when I left an old job and as a big fan of chain type jewellery, it is right up my street (always to be said in a Cheryl Cole accent).

3. The Sunglasses

These are bog standard Topshop sunglasses but I always tend to get compliments on them. I like big sunglasses as I think I have a big round face, so wearing Rayban Wayfarer types do not suit me.

4. The Watch

I like that this New Look watch is different and isn't trying to be a copy of a Michael Kors. I appreciate its sporty feel. The only downside to this watch is that I can't really tell the time on it all that well. What are iPhones for eh?

The Shoe Diaries #1: Leopard Print Skater Shoes

Skater Shoes Primark

I am definitely a shoe person. I'm not really a fan of fashion clichés, but I do think most women fall into either the shoe or bag person camp. Buying new shoes makes me happier than any other sartorial purchase! I saw these Primark skater shoes on my friend, had extreme shoe envy and knew they had to be mine.

They are totes comfortable because they are made from really soft material and didn't hurt even when I wore them for the first time (unlike the Topshop ones-ouchie!). They also go with loads due to their monochrome loveliness and to sum up, I heart them.

OOTD: Stolen from my mum's wardrobe

Culottes Stolen from my mum's wardrobe
Sandals Primark
Locket Vintage

"Have you got any cool clothes from the 90s in your wardrobe in France?" I asked my mum last week before visiting the parents at our house in Normandy. She claimed she hadn't, but I'm glad I looked anyway as I found these beauties! I've been wanting some culottes recently so was mega pleased to find them, and I think they look fresh and summery teamed with white.

I had a peaceful, relaxing break in France with nothing but my family and the cows for company. I love the French countryside and the way of life, it's a complete contrast to London and how busy everything is. However by day 4 I was gagging for a bit of WiFi and the latest episode of TOWIE. I kinda wish that wasn't true but hey, that's the 21st century I guess! I must be a city girl at heart.

OOTD: Summery Thrifty Outfit

Jacket Vintage
T-Shirt Costco
Denim Shorts Vintage Levis
Sandals Primark
Sunglasses Primark

This whole outfit cost me about a £20 (not included the bag although that was a gift so technically it was free). This jacket/blazer thing is a size 18 and came with comedy power shoulders, I want to get it sewn but as I don't know how to do that, for the moment I've just safety pinned them in place. Clever no?

This past week I have mostly been doing the following:
  1. Super boring life admin such as closing accounts, trying to sort out the mountain of crap stuff in my room in preparation of my move to Dubai.
  2. Watching Breaking Bad. I've seen up to the end of season 4 and am desperate to start watching season 5 but I'm gonna try and get it for my holiday and watch it with my sister.
  3. Eating a load of old crap. I really need to stop this. (I've just come back from Nandos)
  4. Listening to Mariah Carey's new album which is called 'Me...I am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse'. This title is hilarious. Mariah Carey in general is hilarious. I'll leave you with this, which says it all:

Inspiring Blogger Award

Nail guru, book lover and all round babe Christa nominated me for the Inspiring Blogger award and it made my day! Christa's is a lifestyle blog discussing all manner of topics from hula hooping to book reviews with a bit of exercise and baking in between, all written in an amusing and I-totally-feel-you-gurrrrlll kinda way. We've been internet pals via social media for a good few years now so do check out her blog and spread the love! Thanks for the nomination beaut :)

Here are the rules of the award:
  • Thank and link to the person who nominated you
  • List the rules and display the award
  • Share seven facts about yourself
  • Nominate 15 other amazing blogs and comment on their posts to let them know they have been nominated
  • Optional: display the award logo on your blog and follow the blogger who nominated you
Seven facts about me:

  • I love cats. Like seriously love them. Sometimes I can't cope with how much I love them and I want to squeeze them too hard. In case you're wondering, I also like otters and whales.

  • When I was 6 I lived in France for a year. My family still have a house there and I am actually visiting for the first time in about 4 years next week. It's in the middle of nowhere, has no internet or TV and you have to turn the water on via a hole underground. So yeah it's not fancy. It's surrounded by cows who I used to think were my pets.

  • I'm a vegetarian. FAQs: Since I was 6, because I don't like the texture of meat, no I don't miss bacon.

  • Going to weddings makes me cry every time. As does The Little Princess especially the scene when her dad doesn't recognise her. It's making me almost well up now.

  • Fruit is my favourite food group. I could genuinely eat about 15 portions a day. Top 5 not in order: cherries, Granny Smith apples, passion fruit, peaches and raspberries.

  •  When me and my friend Ellie were younger we learned the whole closing dance in Everybody (Backstreet's Back) by Backstreet Boys. There was no YouTube to follow so we recorded the video on tape and watched it back multiple times. (I just checked and yes I still know it. Haters gon' hate. Right Nick?)

  • The first concert I went to was Craig David in 2000 (Born To do It is such an underrated album). I wore pedal pushers, a sky blue puffa gilet, deely boppers and copious amounts of silver eyeshadow. Me and my friends waiting at the stage door for Craig but as he did not emerge we asked his backing singer to sign our poster. He was called Wayne.

The 15 lovely ladies I nominate are:

  • Cow Biscuits- SJ is a Cardiff based lifestyle blogger. I love her fun jewellery finds and beautiful cat!
  • Xen's Imagination - Firstly, how cool is the name Xenia? She has the kind of laid back, effortless style I love. And gives me serious short hair envy.
  •  The Little Plum- Chloe is such a babe and her writing style cracks me up! She's the sass queen.
  • The Little London Girl - Ellan is super cute and seems so chatty and personable- I love her lists and what-I've-been-up-to posts.
  • The Fashion is Mine- I get so many DIY tips from Gwen's blog- it makes me wonder why I've never thought of them! She is also a photography pro and has excellent tips.
  • Sophia Stancer - I followed Sophia on Tumblr for ages before she started her blog and love to read her thoughts on fashion and life in general. We share a love of Chanel and Paris!
  • Salt and Chic- Amy can pull off anything and I want her shoe collection!
  •  Rose Keats- I love Roisin's long, talky posts where she really goes right into a subject. Her restaurant reviews are also top notch.
  • Rose and Vintage- Ellie is only 16 but is wise beyond her years and has an original style, she reminds me of Tavi- which is of course a huge compliment!
  • Taylor Gymer - I get so much style inspiration from this lady's blog. She really rocks a midi skirt and has a way with colour matching. Plus she's so smiley!
  • Jazz Lips and Tulips- I particularly love Eloise's photography style and the graphics she uses on her blog. They make me happy. She makes everything fun.
  • The Style Rawr - Tara and Jade are fellow Bristol girls with a fun take on fashion and beauty. Their wishlists are totally enabling!
  • Make Me Glossy- This is my gorgeous friend Becky's funny and totally relate-able blog, who writes about style and beauty through the eyes of a fashion journalist.
  • Daniela Scribbles - I wrote about Daniela in my favourite beauty bloggers post. Visit her blog for great, helpful reviews, face of the days and  new product launches.
  • Pierre Le Cat- Helen's sweet, laid back style and jewellery finds make me want to go on a major shopping spree!

Thanks again to Christa for nominating me, I had a lot more fun than I imagined writing this post- maybe I'm much more vain that I thought haha (I woke up like dis). Please do click on all of the above blogs because they're all banging and will improve your life immensely and instantly. All the Is. I really am rambling absolute nonsense now. Anyhoo I'm off to buy safety pins. Peace.
